I think I have this blog page all sorted out now, and will now attempt to update regulary. After starting journaling (for a second time) I actually fogot my password and dispite repeated attempts to illict assistance from the powers that be (blogspot) my password never arrived. About a week ago I was clearing out our old xtra webmail account and dilly brain me discovered that I had used that as my contact e-mail, rather then my regular hotmail account so they had been sending my password to that account and there were 7 messages waiting there for me. What a numbskull I can be at times. Anyway, here I am again, and this time I have ticked a little box titled 'remember me' so that all I have to do is put my e-mail address in, and waaah laaaa, I'm in. (I should be able to handle that).
Ok, back to the opti fast. As I had mentioned previously in my diary x journal, along with carrying a ton of excess weight, I also have PCOS (polycystic overies). I am under a specialist at Mercy Hospital in regards to monitoring the side effects from this infliction. Anyway, two weeks ago at my check up I was dismayed (but not surprised) to find that my weight had crept up another 11kg since my last appointment in 2005. My specialist sat me down and started discussing the importance of dealing with the weight as it would help the PCOS as well. He recommended a product called opti-fast as a way to achieve quick weightloss as an initial plan of action. Basically it works along the same lines as the atkins diet by restricting the amount of carbohydrates you consume. This forces your body into what is known as ketosis, which means it has to use its own fat for energy.
Technical bit:When we consume food our body processes sugar/carbs first, and as most foods have sugar/carbs in them, then even if we eat an apple, our body will burn up the energy in the apple before attacking our fat stores. If we stop giving our body sugar/carbs it will be forced to use the energy from stored fat faster then it would under any other diet.
Now this option may seem extreme, but I got excited when I heard my lovely specialist talking about i,t as I finally thought that I could be onto something that would actually suit the way my body operates. For those that don't know, I have tried weight watchers, and considering the amount of weight I carry I should have been able to lose at least 1 +kg (min) in my first week as most people my size would lose 1.5 - 3kg to start with. Well, I lost 400g in my first week and for two of those days I only drank water as I was sick and knew that anything I put down would most likely reappear again. (I lost 200g in my second week)
So, a week and a half after starting opti-fast and I am feeling GREAT. The first three days were the toughest. My specialist had already warned me that I would get a headache, caused by the purging of toxins from my systems, and he wasn't wrong. By day four I noticed that I didn't have the same appetite I used to have and going without eating meals wasn't such a big deal anymore. My first real challenge came at the weekend when I normally do some baking. I made a carrot cake and the smell of that delcious cake baking just about drove me insane. I decided that continuing to do weekly baking will be like self torture, so knowone in the house knows it yet, but they are about to find out just how much like home baking all those shop bought goodies that advertise they are just like homemade really are. LOL.
So, there you have it. I know I said my next post would be about goals, but since there has been such a dramatic change from doing ww to now doing opti fast, I couldn't really change the gameplan and not mention it.
Well thats about it from me.
ciao for now

Sometimes by changing our plan it builds motivation. As they say a change is as good as a holiday. Sounds like this is just what you needed!!
